Going the Distance: DC Cable Length Consideration

Here at Power Partners, a significant majority of our business is in developing modified-standard AC/DC converters, tailoring one of our off-the-shelf solutions to meet the more particular needs of a specific application. The modifications we have developed over the years span a wide range of technical challenges, but one of the simpler, and more common requests is for a change in length of the DC output cable. While a cable length change appears to be and often is a simple design modification, there are several interesting factors to consider that may place constraints on such a change.
This month’s technical bulletin will discuss in detail the many technical and regulatory implications of changing the nominal DC output cable length of a power supply. We will also establish some basic equations that one can use to estimate the impact of changing cable length on important power supply specification parameters. Read more (view pdf) >>
